St. Mary of Czestochowa's sister parish is Our Lady of the Miracles. The parish is in Maimon, Dominican Republic, near Puerto Plata in the northern part of the country. Its pastor serves Maimon, as well as 18 other chapels in the surrounding mountains.
During the first mission to Maimon in 2014, rosaries and donated clothing were distributed to the community, and the sick were visited. In addition, money was distributed to the parish's poor and to the parish itself, which is building a new church. (Rosaries and religious medals that parishoners wish to donate to the poor in our sister parish can be left in the special basket for the Dominican Republic in the foyer of the church.)
The teens in St. Mary's congregation have a letter writing program to teens in the Dominican Republic. Students there are excited to be learning English in their classes. Within two years, Rev. Sliwinski hopes to organize a youth mission trip to Maimon.
In addition, future projects are being brainstormed to provide solar panels for a more reliable energy source than the two hours each day that are currently available, and to organize medical trips.
